Cory Peeke's Exhibit Now Open

Cory Peeke's exhibit, a higher education, is now open in the University Gallery.

Pittsburg State University Museum of Art inaugurates the 2015- 2016 exhibition season by presenting “a higher education”, a solo exhibition of the work by artist, Cory Peeke, in the University Gallery. The artworks will be on display from August 24 – November 5, 2015. Peeke will present an artist talk Thursday, September 3rd at 3:00pm with a reception to follow from 4:00 to 6:00pm.

Peeke’s art are a fluid assemblage of societies’ visual debris that that through the layer of tape and glue allow the viewer to have a new experience to a past reflection. Through the process of collage, these snippets of the past combine to become something both fresh and familiar. Peeke’s most recent works explore the duality that is the transient, disposable nature of culture, as well as the need to create tradition and cultural continuity through the lens of the book and higher education.

“I’m a collage maker for much the same reason I’m a curator – I love images. This affection has led me to collect remnant imagery; the largely ignored and seemingly inconsequential bits of ephemera that once had a purpose, still have a presence, but now idle in disuse. I combine, layer, juxtapose, glue, tape and re-contextualize these bits and pieces of detritus in order to reincarnate and recharge them.” - Cory Peeke, Artist

Art and the Automobile Exhibit

This week, students from the Automobile: Art and Design class had their works on exhibit at the second floor alcove galleries of Russ Hall. Each student designed and built a car, either from an existing model or their imaginations, and then created a professional display for the exhibit.

The class has been a great chance for the students to experience interdisciplinary collaboration between the Automotive Technology Department and the Department of Art, and we hope to have more classes like this in the future.

The Pittsburg State University Art Department is excited to present the Senior Exhibition, Home Grown. This group includes a wide spectrum of works presented from a group of seven very unique artists: Lisa Bogart, Kelli Carter, Lauren Downing, Jared Jennings, Jeremy Kelly, Rudi Rodebush, and Sylvia Schultze.
Although each artist within our exhibition vary greatly, as our name implies, we share an intimate connection to the lands and communities in the Four State area. Much like the crops, trees, and even weeds that are an integral part of our society, our roots run throughout this community.
Through our time here within the Pittsburg State University Art Department our experiences have intertwined, creating our own symbiotic support system. Though our histories and creative expression may differ wildly, we could not have fully grown into what we have become without each other.
We would be honored to have your company, questions, and open minds to attend our Artist Lectures on April 9th from 4pm- 8pm or to have viewers simply explore and enjoy the art works in the Second Floor Gallery of Porter Hall any time between April 7th and April 17th. The night will include the intimate stories of struggle, creative intuition, and personal triumphs from the artists
