Current Exhibits

The Department of Art has been home to two wonderful exhibits these past two months, both of which will soon be coming to a close.

Collective Fusion is non-juried, salon style exhibit of works by faculty, staff, and friends of the gallery. The collection includes artists who have contributed time or money to the gallery, as well as professors from other departments on campus. The exhibit will be open until March 12th in the University Gallery.

Our second show, Life Industries by Andrew Au is showing in the Harry Krug Gallery through March 7th. Life Industries explores product design and manufactured objects seen as living organisms by replicating images through methods of biological illustration and modeling to create prints and sculpture. Au will give an artist's lecture from
4:00-5:00 p.m. room 103 Porter Hall.
Both exhibits will be having a joint reception on March 7th, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in Porter Hall.

Design World Course

Design World is a course specifically geared for non-art majors. Students from majors all over campus learn problem solving processes and creative thinking through designing art objects. This semester  students in Professor Portico Bowman's Design World class also find out how fun this experience can be!

It's been a busy year so far here in the Department of Art. Last Thursday, we hosted a reception for the SEK Art Fest Artists who will be decorating their coal buckets this spring. The Coal buckets will be on display in downtown Pittsburg from May-September of 2013. For more information about SEK Art Fest visit the Facebook Page.
Congratulations to all the artists who made it and good luck on your pieces!

Art exhibit features work from across campus

The Pittsburg State University Art Department is celebrating the wide-ranging talents of faculty, staff and friends of its galleries with an exhibit, “Collective Fusion II.” The exhibit, in the University Gallery in Porter Hall, features works by members of the Pittsburg State University family from all across campus.
“There is a tremendous range of media, including paintings, watercolors, woodwork, weaving, fiber art, polymer clay, ceramics, photography and sculpture,” said Gallery Director S. Portico Bowman. “The works themselves are spirited, energetic, engaging and funny -- in a good way.”
Bowman said the gallery hosts the biannual event as a way to show how art touches the lives of many different people and does so alongside their other professional and personal pursuits.
The exhibit is free and open to the public and runs through March 13. The University Gallery is open from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
